The recent tragic gas explosions in Chattogram and Cumilla have left us with heavy hearts. Whether it is a piped natural gas line or an LPG cylinder, the loss of life and property is a stark reminder that safety should never be an afterthought. At SmartX BD, we believe that selling a device is not enough; ensuring you know how to use it correctly to save lives is our true mission.
⚠️ Gas leakage is silent.
⚠️ Gas accumulation is invisible.
⚠️ Explosion risk builds quietly.
✅ But in many cases accidents are preventable.
🛑 This is not a promotional post.
🛡️ This is a safety awareness message from SmartX BD.
🔥 Two Types of Common Household Gas Risks
1️⃣ Line Gas (Natural Gas / Methane)
Used in many buildings through pipeline connection.
🚨 Important fact:
⚠️Natural gas (methane) is lighter than air.
⬆️ If leaked, it rises upward and accumulates near the ceiling.
2️⃣ LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas – Cylinder Gas)
Common in apartments and homes using cylinders.
🚨 Important fact:
⚠️ LPG is heavier than air.
⬇️ If leaked, it sinks downward and accumulates near the floor level.
This difference is extremely important when installing a gas detector.
📍 Correct Positioning of Gas Leak Detector
Proper installation is critical.
✅ For Line Gas (Natural Gas / Methane)
👉 Install 15–30 cm below ceiling
👉 At least 30 cm away from corners
👉 1.5 to 2 meters away from stove
👉 Around 50 cm above burner height
👉 Avoid direct airflow, windows, and exhaust fans
Because leaked methane rises upward.
✅ For LPG Cylinder Gas
👉 Install 15–30 cm above floor
👉 At least 30 cm away from corners
👉 1.5 to 2 meters from cylinder or stove
👉 Avoid airflow areas
Because LPG settles near the ground.
Incorrect positioning = delayed or no detection.
💡 What Is %LEL?
👉 LEL = Lower Explosive Limit
👉 Every combustible gas has a minimum concentration level in air where it can ignite.
For example:
If gas concentration reaches a certain percentage in the air, and there is a spark, it can explode.
6% LEL means:
The gas concentration has reached 6% of the minimum explosive level.
It does NOT mean explosion will immediately happen.
It means: ⚠️ Gas concentration is building and becoming dangerous.
SmartX BD sells gas detectors which trigger alarm at:
🔔 6% LEL (±3%) — That means it alerts you very early, before reaching a highly dangerous explosive concentration.
🛡️ This early warning can save lives.
🚨 Important Reality: Ventilated Gas is Not Explosion Risk
If gas leaks but is properly ventilated and does NOT accumulate in a closed space, it will not reach explosive concentration.
🚨 Gas explosion risk happens when:
❗ Leakage occurs
❗ Room is closed
❗ Gas accumulates
❗ No early detection
❗ Spark occurs
That is when disaster happens.
A gas detector is meant to detect accumulation risk, not minor ventilated smell.
🔔 What To Do If Alarm Triggers?
🚨 If your gas detector alarms:
❗ Do NOT switch electrical devices on/off
❗ Do NOT use matches or lighters
❗ Open doors and windows immediately
❗ Turn off gas supply
❗ Leave the area if smell is strong
If you are outside home, WiFi-enabled gas detectors send alert via app, allowing you to act immediately.
🛑 Gas Leak Detector vs Cylinder Explosion
Important clarification:
⚠️ Gas detectors detect:
✔ Gas leakage accumulation
✔ Explosion risk from combustible gas
⚠️ They do NOT prevent:
❌ Cylinder structural explosion due to cylinder failure
🛡️ Cylinder safety depends on:
✔ Manufacturer standards
✔ Expiry validation
✔ Proper storage
✔ Regular inspection
Modern buildings keeping LPG cylinders on ground floor is a very good safety measure. That storage area should also have gas detectors installed.
📱 Smart Gas Detectors Are Not New
Gas detector alarms are available in the market for years. But awareness is the key.
Buying one after news headlines without understanding:
🎯 How it works
🎯 Where to install
🎯 What LEL means
🎯 What to do during alarm
— makes it less effective.
Safety device + knowledge = protection.
🏢 SmartX BD’s Role
For many years, SmartX BD has been supplying:
✔ WiFi-based combustible gas detectors
✔ App alert supported (Tuya / Smart Life)
✔ Sound alarm + mobile notification
✔ Early detection at 6% LEL
Models include:

✔ Plug-and-play 3-pin UK type (85–250V AC)

✔ Type-C powered model with display & heat detection
But more important than product is awareness. Because safety starts with knowledge.
